Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The process of upgrading an item, often called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases a stat linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an indicator of the level of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling an item increases with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An upgrade for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the effectiveness of your armor and weapons. This can be done through many different methods that include using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available all over all over the world and are rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The main way to upgrade equipment is by making use of upgrade components which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and many require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others give general bonuses.

There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, are able to be placed in any kind of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools and provide various benefits, from increasing the speed of the item's collection to providing additional crafting materials.

To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right side of the screen. It will display the expected stats following the upgrade. If you do not have enough of either, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.

The upper-right corner shows the amount of upgrade components needed for the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of upgrade and rarity, but it can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them to other players.

Many weapons can be improved by adding a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Some can be improved with the suffix. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the name of the item, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to communicate visual information. They move to catch the viewer's attention and spur interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language and makes them more effective in communicating a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.

Each glyph comes with a range of values that it could increase a stat's value according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This range is not the actual amount at which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum value by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you're creating it for.

The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is located will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be retrieved by removing the glyph fragments.

If you take an item off after adding a glyph, the shards of the glyph will vanish. You can also add the glyph on your equipment to provide an additional benefit. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and deal it slowly rather than all at once. This can be helpful for players who take many hits from enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes of weapons and other equipment. They can be obtained from many sources, such as mysterious boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Reroll tokens give the player a brand new random affix that is usually superior to the original. Reroll tokens are also a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon that can be upgraded to provide better damage or additional perks.

Rerolled items don't appear on the menu for upgrade options, but they can still be upgraded. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its level, which means items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower-level ones.

In addition to reroll tokens, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit. A reroll will roll the % chance of a weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeatedly rolled up to three times.

Rerolling is an excellent method to improve an item. However, players must be aware of the fact that the total ilvl will be diminished by the number of rerolls it took to get it to the final ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on rings and Diadems, as they have no other options for raising ilvl.

The reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive, and it would be more equitable to let players pay for it in the form of money or food items that would allow players to modify their build without wasting time and effort. However, paid rerolls are not something that the developers would like to implement at this time in the game's development. They're planning to include a potion that will allow players to change their race in the near future.

Leveling

There are a variety of ways to level up an upgrade for an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the value of an upgrade for any stat. The second is to increase the upgrade effect, which increases the healing or damage of a specific stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The upgraded item will maintain its iLevel but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

However, there are times where a higher or more special roll can occur. The type of item upgrader kit will determine the iLevel.
